Holistic Approaches to Creativity and Education

Poetry

Poetry gave me a voice as a young child and helped me master reading. I knew the joy of being listened to in school assemblies and poetry festivals. I continue to love open readings as a way to connect to people especially when you move to a new home and do not know anyone. I love being published, but this can take many forms not just printing!

Parenting

Although my children are grown I want them to know their parents, extended family and ancestors are always here for them. I write books and poems for families whose children are on intercultural journeys. As a teacher I am interested in learning from parents but also sharing what I have learnt in my own journey. Poetry can have a place in any family.

Pedagogy

As an about to be teacher I have gained a powerful appreciation for the many positive things my parents taught me and how I might take these into the classroom or learning spaces. Many of these things have a cultural and or spiritual base and some are from experiences.

Peaceful

Even when poetry is expressing angst, it seems to be asking for a resolution through words, through walking in someone else’s shoes, or caring about what creation is saying to us which is so much fun with personification. I personally want to write poetry that peacefully empowers and moves beyond an angst mode, with creativity, craft and compassion.
